The Beauty of Managing Time

As I am typing this, I am on a break from working on my marketing assignment that is due this weekend.

And it's currently. 3.52am in the morning as well.

I can't say that I am the best at managing time, in fact - I am an absolute procrastinator. Many times I get my drive when it is close to submission. But as past experience has shown me numerous times, cutting it too close always gets my heart racing for all the wrong reasons.

I personally have been trying to break my workload down into smaller parts so that it's easier to manage. And when you break it down, things don't seem so huge and daunting as when originally thought. Then again, I don't really listen to my own advice often either embarrassingly enough.

How do you manage your time? It'll be good to get other suggestions to see what works out for me in the long run.

Now it's back to work, wish me luck on finishing my assignment on time.

Finding the Autumn in Summer

I am a fan of experiencing the seasons through the colour of my polish, though I do stray away from the colour palate from time to time. As everyone knows, Australia goes through the heats of summer while the rest of the world starts to cool down around this time of the year. Even though it's all about the bright shades right now, I can't help but feel a tad bit autumnal - it's technically fall everywhere else after all.

So imagine my delight when I found this beautiful emerald green shade from Sayuri Nail Lacquer while exploring the Young Designer's Market at South Bank this weekend.

Magick Solace by Sayuri Nail Lacquer

The shade I picked up, Magick Solace, is one of the five shades in Sayuri Nail Lacquer's newest collection Otherworldly. I personally love me some jewel tones and this shade just reminded me of emeralds. The micro-shimmer in the polish is the selling point for me, I just loved how my nails glittered under natural light! A thing to note: this is a VERY sheer polish. I had to apply around 4 or five coats to get it opaque as seen in the picture above. But the benefits to this formulation is that you are able to layer this over other colours for an added special effect. Personal suggestions include darker shades like black and forest greens.

Sayuri is an indie nail polish brand that is a proud Australian company. I have personally heard of this company before through a Singapore-based online polish shop called Mei Mei's Signatures, but have never bought any of their products till now. That being said, this is the very first indie polish that I own and I'm loving it!

Here's to the start of a wonderful love affair with indie nail polishes.

All products bought in this blog post are purchased with my own money, I am not being sponsored for this. :)

The Lust List - Maria Hazell's Say It Like You Mean It

I have been obsessed about this song ever since I heard it. This song was released early in the year and has been around for a while now. If you have not, you should know that you are missing out and listen to it here

Written by both Maria Hazell and songwriter Hugo Björk in the span of 12 hours, "Say It Like You Mean It" speaks about an elephant in the room. It sounds as if the problem she faces is with the guy who does not love her anymore but yet they are still together. She's trying to understand why he is acting that way but he calls her dumb for doing so. Don't worry though, she's giving him one last chance to show his love to her in this song. If not, that girl's gonna bounce.

This single is part of a very cool collection of songs from the 100 SONGS label, which get this - only releases singles and nothing else. This is a pretty new company that started out in 2012, founded by Ola Håkansson, Klas Lunding, Ben Malén and X5 Music according to their facebook page. If you fancy taking a stab at having your single heard by the label, you can do so via their dropbox

Good luck and enjoy the song!

p.s. Just because the lyrics to this song is pretty much non-existent on the internet, I have decided to transcribe the song for your enjoyment. DO NOT STEAL THE LYRICS, REMEMBER TO LINK PEOPLE BACK TO THIS POST INSTEAD.

Maria Hazell - Say It Like You Mean It Lyrics

(x2)
mean it
mean it
I’ll pretend that
I believe it

It’s in the way
you carry yourself
you laugh so hard
at everything
your heart’s beating
it’s not working
don’t call me dumb
when I know you’re not
I, I try my best to find a way to get in
(where your head at, where your head at)
oh, it’s bittersweet the way you give me nothing
you give me nothing

If you hold me like you feel it
I will stay this one last time
If you say it like you mean it
I’ll pretend that, I believe it

(x2)
mean it
mean it
I’ll pretend that
I believe it

Don’t know that face
you’re not yourself
let my head rest on your chest
you’re heart’s beating
but it’s not working
I feel so dumb
wish I was numb

I, I try my best to find a way to get in
(where your head at, where your head at)
oh, it’s bittersweet the way you give me nothing
you give me nothing

(x2)
say it like you
mean it
mean it
I’ll pretend that
I believe it

I, I cross my heart and hope to die
that this night is gonna be the last one

If you hold me like you feel it
I will stay this one last time
If you say it like you mean it
I’ll pretend that, I believe it

(x2)
say it like you
mean it
mean it
I’ll pretend that
I believe it

(x2)
(nothing, you give me nothing)
mean it
mean it
I’ll pretend that
I believe it

The Lust List - Midi Skirts

Oh, the beloved midi skirts - they are all the rage right now and dayum they look classy.

These midi skirts basically end either just at your knee or hit slightly below it, giving you a polished and formal look. They come in a wide variety of patterns, materials and price points so there will be one that suits your taste and budget for sure.

Commonly styled with sweaters and heels (as seen above), this combination emphasises the classiness of the skirt. And depending on the material and style of the skirt, it can be worn from office meetings to attending a play. This just goes to show how versatile the skirt can be since it can transition from work to play depending on what you wear.

Another way to wear this trend is with crop tops. The casualness of the tops make the midi skirt much more wearable other then to a formal presentation or a fancy outing. The sliver of skin shown between the crop top and the high waisted midi skirt gives the outfit a slight hint of sexiness as well.

See how the heel is always a constant? You don't have to always rock the regular ones, wearing booties help to give the midi skirt a relaxed vibe while still flattering the outfit as a whole.

And again, this is something that a lot of people have gotten in their wardrobes except for me - so I gotta grab one soon before this trend is over!

The Book Cafe: Unleashing Mr. Darcy

The Story

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single woman teetering on the verge of thirty must be in want of a husband.

Not true for Manhattanite Elizabeth Scott. Instead of planning a walk down the aisle, she's crossing the pond with the only companion she needs; her darling dog, Bliss. Caring for a pack of show dogs in England seems the perfect distraction from the scandal that ruined her teaching career, and her reputation, in New York. What she doesn't count on is an unstoppable attraction to billionaire dog breeder Donovan Darcy. The London tycoon's a little bit arrogant, a whole lot sexy, and the chemistry between them is disarming. When passion is finally unleashed, might Elizabeth hope to take home more than a blue ribbon?

The Lowdown

THIS.BOOK.IS.AWESOME.NUFF.SAID.

That was the very first reaction I had when I finished the book, literally moments ago, in one sitting. And not to mention that I had only just bought the book on the same day as well. I am a fan of Jane Austin's Pride and Prejudice and anything that is romantic in nature, make that book an easy read as well and I am sold. A modern retelling of this classic book with a hint of sexual/romantic tension and a lot of dog shows, Unleashing Mr. Darcy is exactly just that.

I throughly enjoyed Teri Wilson's style of writing, especially how she has written the two main characters, Donovan Darcy and Elizabeth Scott. Their characters were well written and easy to define straight off the bat. I also appreciated how Teri had incorporated certain parts of the original text from Pride and Prejudice into her book. There is a moment towards the end where Donovan utters word by word my favourite line in the original story and it just literally made my heart melt into a puddle on the floor.

I love how easy the plot flows, making it relatively simple for me to follow the story. There is also a very strong focus on the two main stars of the story, so I felt that the other characters were not as developed as Donovan and Elizabeth - which is a bit of a shame considering how much depth there is to the two of them.

Overall, I love this book to pieces and will definitely be bringing it along with me on the plane ride over to Australia.

The Rating

5/5

The Lust List - NAKED 3 PALATE

I have been wanting to do these types of posts for a while now. So, I finally bit the bullet and starting a series here called The Lust List (TLL)! It is basically a monthly post where I shower some love on anything(s) that has caught my eye.

In this month's TLL spotlight, I am lusting over the Urban Decay Naked 3 Palate!

Isn't the colours gorgeous?

Now, I am not a shimmer kind of girl - I prefer my matte shades just because. I also tend to lean more towards my neutrals, colours ain't my thang - yet. However, this was something that I had lusted over ever since word got out about its release. The rose gold hues in the palate got to me when I saw it. And they are kind of neutrals to a certain extent no? They are mainly pink shades after all. I was sold when I saw grav3yardgirl and Kandee Johnson's videos on it. They do a way better job then me when it comes to explaining everything you need to know about the Naked 3 so I shall spare you the horrible commentary on my part.

So many people have it by now but surprise surprise, I don't. And this is shocking even to me considering that I spent my money on the Marc Jacobs Style Eye-Con in NO.7, that palate is more expensive then the Naked 3. But who knows, I may just get this after I have recovered some of my damage - and maybe even get my hands on the Naked Basics Palate *coughMATTE&NEUTRALcough* as well.

Where Have I Been?

Hey dolls!

I have been gone for quite a while, over two years in fact. Well, considering the fact that no one will be reading this is fine by me - it means I can start afresh whenever I want to!

Now, I can't promise the best quality on everything but I will do my best. And I can't promise consistent blogging cause I am doing this out of interest. If ya girl ain't feeling it, then I ain't gonna do it.

I hope to be able to talk mainly about beauty, fashion as well as maybe bits of my life. I am going to go on an exciting adventure this June, university in Australia! This would be the first time that I am living on my own away from my family for a long period of time, but I am excited for it. I'll be sharing more things in relation to that when the time comes.

So there is that in terms of updates I guess, now onto the posts!
